Summary: You cannot run a web server on port 80 and with Remote Management enabled (with firmware version 1.0.16.98 on a WNDR3700V1).
Until there is a corrected version of the firmware released, WNDR3700V1 users will not be able to run a web server on port 80 while Remote Management is enabled.
Note: While I appreciate the good intentions of some, and understand the desire by others to impress with their technical prowess, I'm not soliciting alternative workarounds (tunneling through SSH, moving the web server to a non-standard port, etc.) or dire warnings about network security aspects of Remote Management. I'm not interested in reverting to older versions of the firmware, flashing OpenWRT, or purchasing a different Netgear product. All I want is for Netgear to make the product perform as advertised and described by Netgear pre-sales support and the user manual.
- I have a web server behind my WNDR3700V1 (1.0.16.98 firmware).
- I have port 80 forwarded to that web server.
- Everything has worked fine like that.
- I enabled Remote Management of the router, with the default port of 8080.
- The web server immediately became inaccessible from the Internet.
- I turned off Remote Management.
- The web server was immediately accessible on the Internet.
- No combination of settings and rules could be found that made the web server accessible on the standard port of 80 while Remote Management was enabled.
