WN802T - limited access/no internet

Hi

I really hope someone can advise. I've scoured these forums and Googled myself ragged trying to work out the problem but have had no success.

Here is my basic setup:
- ADSL into a Billion BiPAC 5200 RC router (2 PCs connected via ethernet and 2 or more laptops via WIFI) in my office (a building that is separate from my house).
- Ethernet cable running from router to Netgear WN802T in my house so I can connect various wifi devices (laptops, Playstation 3, phones.)

Here's the (basic) problem:
When connecting to the router in my office, via cable or wireless, internet and networking works perfectly. But, when trying via the WN802T AP in my house, things aren't working. All devices can see the AP SSID, and can always connect, but I am generally getting NO internet connectivity or network access.

I have set up the units like this (I can't remember why, or if it was a tech that suggested these numbers):

Router
SSID "Office"
IP 10.0.0.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server enabled
Starting IP 10.0.0.3 with IP pool count of 40
WPA2-PSK AES key
Wireless channel 1

AP
SSID "Home"
IP 10.0.0.50
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Def. gateway 10.0.0.2
Primary DNS 10.0.0.2
Second DNS 10.0.0.2
DHCP Server disabled
WPA2-PSK AES key
Wireless channel 6

It gets very weird... On my laptop (Macbook Pro) I can sometimes connect, sometimes not. It seems to get very confused. The Office SSID should appear as a very weak, distant signal or not at all (it's at least 30 meters away) and the Home SSID appears as a very strong signal (about 5 meters away). But, sometimes, Office appears as a FULL strength signal, which is impossible! Sometimes, when I connect to HOME, my laptop suddenly shows that it is connected to OFFICE at FULL strength. In these instances, internet connectivity and network access all work perfectly, even though the strength makes no sense!
But, more often, the Office router is very weak or not visible, and I connect to the Home AP. BUT, my machine is often assigned an IP that looks like the default Netgear IP (192.something.something...) and not 10.0.0.something as expected from the router, and I have no internet or network access.

Today, on a Windows laptop, ipconfig returned a 10.0.0.something IP but NO GATEWAY. On this same laptop, the following: "Home" is an available network but, after connecting, Windows Networking displays "Unknown Network (Public Network)", "Limited Access" and "No Internet". I also can't change the network location of the "Unknown Network" once connected. When I first connected, I set "Home" as a "Home Network". Moving the same laptop to the Office, I can see Office, I can connect, internet and network access are available, so it can't be a problem with the laptop's wireless settings or adapter. The same goes for my Macbook Pro, cellphones, PS3...

I have rebooted AP, router, computers, phones, etc.
I have removed network details from laptops and started from scratch.
I have set laptops to get IPs etc automatically, and I have tried static IPs.
I have tried using the same SSID on both router and AP.
But the problem persists, sometimes connecting, sometimes not... So, now I can only think that somewhere settings are inappropriate.

Should the SSID on router and AP be the same or different?
Is the WPA2 encryption a problem?
Is setting IPs to 10.0.etc a problem?
Why does the laptop connect to the ROUTER's SSID when the router is actually too far away to be seen?

HELP! It's driving me crazy now - this should be a straightforward setup. I can't think what else to try. I'm not a novice with computers but I feel like I need an engineering qualification to get this right... :(

if there's any info you need just ask! Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise...

 AFH
