WNDR3700 connectivity issues, need help figuring out what to do about it.

As my user name indicates I don't have much experience with networking so I apologize if I say something that doesn't make sense or if I question the obvious.

OK, I'll start with the basics I guess.
My ISP is ATT. I had a 2wire2701 HG-B, but it, like the westell gateway before was a poor quality device and was showing signs of wear.
So, being fed up with using ATTs products I thought, why not try a third party device, it seems that many other ISPs allow the use of them why not ATT.
I decided to go with ATTs 3360 modem and a WNDR3700 from BestBuy.

The initial setup went smooth enough but that's where niceness ended.

The day after I installed everything I began to get loss signal messages while browsing the web. At first I would have to reboot both the modem and the router but after the first week or so I was able to reboot just the router to get back up and running.

I've scoured the internet searching for a solution but I've yet to find anything concrete.

I've read here and there people talking about bridging but 1) I've never done this) and 2) no one seems to have my exact setup so I have yet to successfully mirror other peoples processes.

Basically I'm seeking the help from anyone who can give me advice, and or a solution to my connectivity issues.

Since Im not sure exactly what information I should give, I'll just have to answer questions as I go.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.
