WNR834B v2 Causes 50-fold Drop in Network Speed

My WNR834B v2 router causes a 50-fold drop in download speeds from the modem (a Motorola SB6121 SURFBoard). I was understandably frustrated, thinking that Comcast had a problem with their link, but when I started troubleshooting it quickly became obvious that the problem was with my router.

When I connect my laptop directly via ethernet cable to my cable modem or to the Netgear WNR834Bv2 router, I get download speeds of up to 50Mbps and uploads of 9-10Mbps. However, when I connect via wifi to the router, I get download speeds of around 1Mbps, though upload remains close to 10Mbps. I get identical results when I run the same tests on my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1. When reviewing the firmware notes associated with the most current version of firmware, a known issue is listed stating:
Quote:

If you configure the router in WEP & WPA-PSK type for 130/270Mbps mode, the throughput will be low (around 40 Mbps.) Its recommend to use WPA2-PSK or none security mode to achieve the optimized performance.
As a result, again for troubleshooting, I dropped all security from the next work, and ensured the router is set for connections up to 270Mbps, but with no effect. I am using www.speedtest.net on both my laptop and my iPhone to run the test.

Further, I have completed multiple factory resets on the router, yet it still retains the original SSID on the ethernet connection. The wifi SSID, however, reverted to the factory default "NETGEAR" with the reset.

When the Netgear router is connected to the modem, the modem tells me that it is connected via Single Channel 10BASE T/100BASE T. When the computer is connected directly to the modem, the modem says there is a High-speed Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T) connection from the modem to to my computer (I used the same ethernet cable in both instances).

Setup Specifications:
Computer Brand/model: Dell Vostro and iPhone 5
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit and iOS 6.1
Router Model No: WNR834Bv2
FW version: V2.1.13_2.1.13NA
Modem model no.: Motorola SB6121

Thank you for your help.
