I've recently received two replacement GS748TPS 48 port POE switches to replace switches that were not delivering power to several ports. Our entire organization uses POE IP phones that rely on the switch to power the phone and in turn our workstations as the phones have a switch in them.
We would randomly have phones lose power and never work again. Since we weren't using every port I would just move them to a different port switch and it would be fine. Eventually this happened on too many ports so I got replacement switches from netgear.
When the new switches arrived (around 12-11-12) a week ago I first tested every single port with a voip phone. Every single port worked. Now, I'm experiencing the same issue. A phone stopped working. I plugged it into another port and it works fine. When I check the web interface there are no errors in the logs. The switch shows NO cable hooked up to that port and when I look at the POE settings for the port it just says searching.
If I hook a laptop up to that port it works fine so it seems like it's just NOT delivering power.
My question is, is there something obvious I'm doing wrong? I can't imaging Netgears products are just THAT bad that ports fail after a week. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, Under the POE tab both switches show less than have of the total nominal power being used. The total says 384 and both switches are around 60 for consumed power.
