This is a solution to a problem I could not find an answer to in this forum, posted for others with my configuration.
My system is a Comcast cable modem in to the R6300 to Ubuntu Linux. The Comcast modem installation package does not support Linux so their help desk did something over the network to bypass the install package and connect directly to the modem's MAC address. Next, NetGear's Genie (of course) also does not automatically support Linux but navigating around the settings I found it allowed connections to three different MAC addresses. Clicking the one labeled Computer MAC Address made the connection and all is well.
Changing out the Linux box for something else means I must remember to reconfigure this "hardwired" solution but at least I'm up and running. FYI, the NetGear Support folks had no answer to my query.
