I currently own a Netgear WNR3500L router and I am considering upgrading to a WNDR3700 for the DNLA certification, which is not listed for my current router.
I am in the process of developing my Windows Home Server system from a simple backup and long-term storage device to become a media server. My home is largely ethernet hardwired. Although I need wireless for laptop mobility, I will not be relying on wireless for the connection between my media server and my main home entertainment system.
However, when I compared the specifications on the Netgear website of my current WNR3500L to the WNDR3700, the 3700 processor was not listed to compare to the 3500 processor (480 MHz MIPS 74K). Furthermore, the memory specified for the 3500 was 128 MB NAND flash and 128 MB RAM while the 3700 memory was listed as 8 MB flash and 64 MB RAM.
I am wondering whether the "upgrade" is worth the extra $100 to get DNLA certification. Thanks in advance for any advice provided.
