Hi
I have inherited a network with a FVS318G firewall that is using the 192.168.1.x subnet. I have to add a vmware infrastructre onto this network.
I purchased a GS724T switch becuase it supported VLANs and I was hoping that I would be able to configure this easily. My requirements for the VLANs are as follows
VLAN 101 vmotion traffic with subnet 192.168.101.x. This VLAN needs to be private so only other network devices with a 192.168.101.x can talk
VLAN 103 iSCSI traffic with subnet 192.168.103.x. This VLAN needs to be private so only other network devices with a 192.168.103.x can talk
VLAN 102 VM trafic with subnet 192.168.102.x. This VLAN needs to be public so all of the virtual machines on it can be routed out to the internet and controlled from the other nonprivate subnets.
VLAN 104 VMmanagment network with subnet 192.168.104.x. This VLAN needs to be public so all of the virtual machines on it can be routed out to the internet and controlled from the other nonprivate subnets.
Right now I am just trying to tackel VLAN 104. I have gone into the GS724T and gone into VLAN Configuration and created VLAN 104 as a static VLAN. I also went into VLAN membership and assinged interface g1 to VLAN 104 Tagged. Finally I went into the PVID configuration and set interface g1 to PVID 104 with admint all frame types, ingress filtering disabled, and a priority of 0.
I then went into the FVS318G and went to the LAN Multi Homing tab and set it up as 192.168.104.1. I also went onto the esxi host that I wanted setup and set the ip address to 192.168.104.10 with a default gateway of 192.168.104.1. From the ESXi host I can ping 192.168.104.10 but not the default gateway of 192.168.4.1. From my comptuer on network 192.168.1.x I can ping 192.168.104.1.
So it looks like the problem is on the routing from the firewall, or am i totally lost on this issue.
All help is really apreciated.
