Stora very slow

I use Allway Sync to backup file from Windows7 to the Netgear Stora and it used to work ok, but now access to the Stora is very slow and Allway Sync often returns the error 'The specified network name is no longer available' for some files.

I've been through the Self Check, Hard Reset, and Re-Flash procedures described at http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=62903. I don't know if they were sucessful, for a while it was not accessible and I could not stop the blue light from flashing, but now the blue light is solid and it is accessible but far too slow even when browsing via Windows Explorer.

I've installed a new Gigabyte switch but that made no difference. I've tried a different ethernet cable too. AllwaySync accesses Stora via it's IP address, not a shared drive. Could it be anything to do with SMB2 settings? Next step may be to try another NAS box.

I've tried using the stora popup menu via the icon in the taskbar, opened the stora application in the browser, took a long time to load, then logged in, again it took a long time. I've only used 77GB out of 388GB. After checking for software updates it says there is one, but when I tried to apply it failed.

Also had a message to say I need to configure Raid. When I click Raid in Preferences after a while I get 'system proxy error'. Both HD lights are solid green.
