WN111 v2 Unpluging and plugging to get a connection

Hi everyone,

I have a wireless-N 300 USB adapter WN111 v2. My PC's a barely 2 years old Dell, running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. The router is situated just 19 feet (5.8m) away in the next room (there are no big obstructions in the way).

The problem is this:
Every time I switch on the pc, restart it or wake it from sleep etc etc, there is no connection.
I have to unplug and plug again and again the adapter from its USB cable cradle, gently shaking it whilst running the troubleshoot diagnostics before it connects. Once connected it lasts less than 5 minutes before the connection drops again and I have to repeat the above mentioned routine. Thereafter, it's fine. On some occassions the adapter disables itself when the Pc is first switched on and I have to enable it before trying to get it to connect.

I've tried a longer USB cable but there's no inprovement, whilst plugging the adapter directly to the USB port on the pc results in no connection at all. I've even tested by placing the pc in the same room as the router directedly in front of it and still it's the same problem. According to the adapter properties the driver version is : 3.1.0.101 (dated 25/09/2008). I've tried automatic updates and says the existing one is best.

What do I do to make this adapter do what it should be doing the moment I switch the pc on?
Thankyou.
