My Root Crontab keep disappearing

$

Good Afternoon,

I've set up a crontab under root to restart my stora once a day. Its been having problems with the web front end hanging after lots of FTP to the box.

So I set up the cron to restart every day @ 06:00. ( i set up up and it lists fine)

Then If I do a manual restart and then check it (crontab -l), the cron has has gone.. anyone know why?

Many thanks in advance.

Stora IP question re SSH env strings

$

Good afternoon,

As root users, it I run "env" I see 2 IP addresses which I'm not sure about.

My stora is coded to a static IP of 192.168.1.150 and it appears to be working correctly. What I do not understand is why in the two strings below have .130 as the IP and not 150.

SSH_CLIENT=192.168.1.130 9401 22
SSH_CONNECTION=192.168.1.130 5553 192.168.1.150 22

Is this correct, and if not any idea where these are being picked up and I can correct them.

Thanks

Geoff.

Wired router recommendation please. FVS318G really that bad?

What are your recommendations for a router + switch please, with single port firewalled WAN please? It's for SOHO use and shall connect to a couple of GS105 and WAN via Virgin Media super hub (in modem mode). Wireless to be handled by WNAP320.

Looked at the FVS318G but it gets really bad reviews everywhere (like newegg, Amazon), even with the latest firmware. Is it really that unreliable? Main reason I've registered here is to find out and perhaps get other Netgear recommendations..

Unable to connect to WNR3500L admin pages when WN3500RP extender active

Hi,

I recently added a WN3500RP extender to my network which is run by a WNR3500L wireless router, and everything works fine EXCEPT I now get 'Unable to connect' when trying to access my main router admin pages (192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.com). If I power down the repeater then I can access it fine.

I've got the Repeater IP statically configured to 192.168.1.250, and set the Gateway address to 192.168.1.1. On the main router I've reserved 192.168.1.2-249 for DHCP so as not to interfere with the static IP. I can access the Repeater admin pages at 192.168.1.250.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

HTTP 404 not found

I am using XAMPP with Apache as a local host, and when trying to contact the localhost using IE 10, I get an error HTTP 404 not found. Is it possible that the router (WNDR4500) is blocking the return? Port is 4499.

If so how can I unblock it. A ping to localhost gets a positive response (<1min).

Wms5316 & wag103

Hi

I have been trying all day with no luck getting the WMS to see the WAG103 access points.

Both devices have latest firmware, and usually when I have this problem, I use discovery OUI to find the AP via MAC address.

However, on the WMS, there is no option to add in the MAC address.
If I go to general -> advanced, there's just a syslog option.

Any ideas?

Without adding the MAC addresses, I see no other way for the AP's to be visible.

Can't register Stora after re-flash

Hi there,

I have not been able to access my stora for over a week, via any route. So today I tried a hard reset, this wouldn't allow me to re-register the Stora with the same original name. So I have just re-flashed as per Roby's instructions on the forum.

All appeared to go well but when I try to register it with mystora.com the wizard takes about 5 minutes and says .....

"Registration
Not Completed
Your Stora cannot reach mystora.com to register itself. Try again in a few moments, or click here for more information."

Have tried about 5 times in the last hour.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks:confused:

FVS318N - Stops working!

Hello,

I've had this unit for a few days to test and use for site-to-site gateway. I currently use an ADSL modem for use as my WAN connection. I am running the latest firmware - 4.2.1-2.

Everything is working fine (other than the interface can be slow and it's slow to return from an off state/WAN down state) up until I get the weird instances where the FVS318N will just stop working. WAN goes down. Wireless goes down. I can't ping the unit on its IP address but basic switching works. When I looked at it, the wireless light was off. SO I gave it a power cycle and its back up and running. Things have been pretty sketchy and I'm thinking of writing this off because it's certainly NOT how a device should behave.

Any one else have any insight on what I can do to make this thing solid?

I think it's a nice devlice for what it can do, but these issues make it not suitable for even an office environment if I can't even use it at home.

Thanks & Regards,

Carl

No remote access to my Stora

I can no longer access my Stora from the internet, nor does the Hipserv-application work.
The portforwarding Test shows that all ports are closed.

I've tried to use the advanced settings in my router configuration (Netgear WNR1000v3) but it just says saomething about conflicts. As it seems no ports are open when I test it.
I have also turned on the UPnP in the router, but nothing seems to work.

How can I solv this? And where do I start, is it the Stora or the router, who's the guilty one here?

WNDR3400v2 2.4 Ghz No Connection

For some reason, today, we are unable to connect any of our 2.4Ghz devices to this router. We have only had it for about 1.5 weeks. It was working just fine all of last week and yesterday but not today.
I have any iPhone 5 that is connecting to the 5Ghz band just fine.
But our older iPhones, iPads and wireless printer will not connect to the 2.4Ghz band.

We are on firmware version #V1.0.0.34
Our wireless channel is set to Auto
Security is set to WPA2-PSK[AES]

The 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz lights are both lit on the front of the router.
The devices can see the SSID but when we enter the password and try to connect we just get an error.

HI,

I bought 3500 last month and it only worked well for the first 4 days after that it stopped working, it connects for 2 mins and drops signal completely and then reconnects. I reset and configured it completely again but this damn thing doesnt work.

Last one I had was WN2000 and I thought that was crappy because it also disconnects but it usually runs for a few hrs before disconnecting but this rubbish WN3500...I thought its the latest product and netgear must have fixed the issue by now but NO ... crap product form a crap company.

I'll never buy from this rubbish company again.

WNDR4500 Not Finding XP Machines

$

I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'm hoping there's a simple answer to this problem:

In our small office, I have two Windows 7 PCs and two Windows XP PCs wired directly into the same WNDR4500, along with a Western Digital 1TB USB drive connected to ReadyShare.

In addition, we have a floating Windows 7 laptop in the office that connects via wireless. Our ISP is Comcast Business Class.

The issue: on our simple network (MSHOME), the three Win7 machines (including the laptop) can find each other on the network. The Two XP machines can find each other. We switched from a Linksys router a week ago, and didn't have the problem until now.

But the Win7 machines can't find the XP machines, and vice versa.

On top of that, our ReadyShared USB drive only shows up on the Win7 PCs if we take the extra step of doing RUN > \\readyshare -- it doesn't just show up among the Network connects automatically.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

WNDR4000 as wireless repeater for WNDR4500

$

I have a WNDR4500 as main router and I want to use the WNDR4000 I already have to extend the network to an area where I can't have a direct cable connection. The idea is basically this:

- Wired & Wireless clients for the WNDR4000
- WDS bridge from the WNDR4000 to the WNDR4500
- Wired & Wireless clients for the WNDR4500
- WNDR4500 connects to the Internet

I followed all the instructions I could find, but nonetheless my WNDR4000 won't connect wireless to the WNDR4500. I'm trying to repeat a 5GHz network, settings are the same (ssid, channel, mode) and security is disabled on both. The WNDR4500 is set up as Base station and has the mac of the WNDR4000 registered as repeater. The WNDR4000 is set up as repeater and has the correct mac of the WNDR4500 listed as base station. Both have wireless client association enabled.

I'm at a loss really and would appreciate any pointers. Is there any way I can see what fails?

FTP Problems 3700v4

I just installed a new 3700v4 router on my network. Installation was smooth, but problems began when I tried uploading a series of files from a local Java application to a remote Ubuntu server. This is a common process for me, keeping a website updated.

Uploading one file at a time, no problem. After uploading three the connection was terminated and the router log showed:
[DoS Attack: ACK Scan] from source: 1.2.3.4, port 21, Monday, February 18, 2013 11:49:28,
where 1.2.3.4 is the ip for my remote server.

What would be causing this?

The work around I found is to close the FTP connection between each file transfer, but that is not efficient. Uploading a few files that is not a problem, but uploading several hundred at a time that can be significant.

Any ideas? Any way to whitelist the ip?

Thanks for any help.

Need to "reactivate" WN2000RPT for use each time

$

I have a WN2000RPT to connect my son's desktop upstairs to the internet. It works fine IF I connect to it with a device downstairs first. Once he shuts his computer off the next time he tries to connect it shows no internet access until I connect to it again.

I have an AT&T U-verse router, the device I use to "reactivate" the internet access is an android tablet, and my son's computer is Windows 7

Any suggestions before I just take this back to where I got it and get a different type of range extender?

Hello all, remote FTP question...

Hello and thanks to this forum existing!

Quick question, I have my Stora up-and-running and can FTP to any of the folders in the "FamilyLibrary"...

The trouble I am having is being able to FTP to a "Shared Album"...

Is this possible?

What is the pathname for this? (share/mystora/share/user/desiredfolder/)

??

Using that pathname I can not seem to upload remotely to that folder...I can however upload fine to /FamilyLibrary/desiredfolder/

I want to embed my shared album in my webpage using an IFrame and it seems to work just fine, although, uploading new data to it seems to be a hurdle...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Just another Netgear owner who no longer has 2.4ghz wireless

$

Without having done anything to my router I woke up to find that the 2.4ghz band of my WNDR3700 lost almost all signal. The 5ghz not only works, but now gets five bars on the meter.

After trying to find information online (and finding that a LOT of people have the same problem with this unit), I called Netgear only to be told that I was out of warranty and that it would cost $80 to fix my $110 router.

Netgear has obviously put out a product with fundamental issues, but does not seem willing to fix them without extortion.

Am I missing something, or is this really the situation? I am willing to think that I just misunderstood the person on the telephone.

If I misunderstood, how do I get this thing to work?

If I did not misunderstand the service person and it turns out that Netgear does not support their defective products, does anyone have any recommendation for a suitable NON-Netgear router?

To contrast this situation, I once spent half a day working with HP to get a LONG out of warranty scanner working. I was so impressed with HP for this stellar support that I soon went out and purchased a new HP computer.

FVS318 - Intermittent Network Drops, Began Recently

$

Hello all,
We have had an FVS318 for about 6 years or so without an issue, until about 2 weeks ago. All of the sudden, about three times a day the entire network will drop and then restart all in the span of 30 to 60 seconds. Any programs that were accessing network resources at that moment will crash. It only seems to happen about 2 to 3 times a day. No settings have been changed on it recently and I am rather puzzled as to why this is happening. The log(listed below) on the VPN shows that the date/time has been reset during this outage. I have searched the internet and come up short. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

N300 blocks websites, techsupport says replace route

$

Hello, N300 router is blocking access (wired and wireless) to www.hrblock.com and www.myedaccount.com. All of the computers in the house share this problem. Cell phones connected wireless can access these sites. No blocked websites in router settings. Firewalls/ad-ons/AVG all turned off, no access to the sites. Plug into the motorola access point and now able to access the websites. no website blocking is activated on the router settings. Netgear had me update the firmware, change the MTU, CTS/RTS threshold and preamble mode values. After that, they told me to replace the router as having a physical problem.

I don't think so, there has to be some setting that is blocking TWO specific websites. Please help!
